Fic: Across the Divide (Katie/Marcus) *Adult*

Title: Across the Divide
Author: [livejournal.com profile] idea_of_sarcasm
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Katie Bell/Marcus Flint
Summary: As Voldemort gains power, Katie and Marcus start to learn there is more to life than Quidditch
Disclaimer: I'm not JK Rowling, nor anybody associated with the production and ownership of her work.
Warning(s): Language and sexual content
Author's Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] kereia in the [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus exchange. I should probably wait until a different time to post it around...but well, I'll forget :) Posted to my entirely free new geocities account as it is too long for a single post, and too awkward to break up into proper word counts, ha. There were other places I was going to take this fic, but if certain people on my f-list were going to actually read this pairing in the exchange, it would have had a few too many 'tells'.

Also to fulfill the prompt of 'effect of impact on stationary objects' in my much forgotten [livejournal.com profile] 7spells table.

Guh. I loved it. I loved every word. Your Marcus is just so damn perfect. That gruff affection, the denials...

I want Marcus!

Ha! It takes a lot to make Marcus a likeable bastard - and he's a bloody struggle to write, so I'm glad he worked for you :)

Seriously - thank you for reading and commenting, I'm glad you liked it!

I really really loved that. Marcus/Katie remains one of those not-so-guilty pleasures, the hate-to-love-you, love-to-hate-you intensity is so sexy between a gruff bastard and a tough, spirited woman. :) But besides that character dynamic (which you did wonderfully) I think what sucked me into this was the urgent sense of how high the stakes are for them. Nothing of the danger and shittiness of choices made in war was glossed over and actually that made it romantic to me despite the unsentimental tone; how it really drove home that what he was risking for her, what they were risking together. It made my mind pick up the threads at the end and spin on, really hoping for them that they'd make it, that perhaps he'd have to go underground or she'd clear his name after the war ... and that's an awesome thing about a fic, when it engages your imagination that way. :)

I'm so glad that you both read and liked this :) That dynamic is something I'm a sucker for, and I wasn't sure if I was able to pull it off successfully; the romance too, I can't picture them as a "I wuff you" sort of couple, so in writing I found it a struggle to portray actual affection in circumstance and acts more than words. Basically what I'm saying, is I'm very glad you enjoyed this :) Thank you for reading (this rather massive fice) and the feedback!

I have been searching each one of the known sites of Marcus /Katie and , believe me, it's been difficult to find anything new, complete and good. My favorites are on hiatus (at least I hope they are only on hiatus, like Detained)so, when after months ( since the begnning of september) I found something new on Marcus Flint/ Katie Bell live-journal I hardly believed.
Your fic was great, very well written, and its good to see one of my favorite pairs in action again.
Is it too much to ask for more?

As somebody who has read Detained as well and wished it was updated...I think I read someplace randoom it wasn't going to be continued? - but I don't know that for sure.

Thank you though, I'm very glad you enjoyed my fic - it sort of ate my brain in the writing :) As for more of this specifically, I don't know. I had other places I wanted to take these two, but if I'm honest I'm not sure if it would work better left to the imagination or as a sequel. At the rate I'm going with fanfic exchanges though, lol - I'm sure I'll probably get assigned these two as a pairing again!

I'm glad you made it through the rather massive fic, and it worked for you :) Thanks for reading, and for the feedback!

I'm so glad a knew Marcus/Katie fic is up! I have been searching the net for new stories. I really love your version of Marcus and Katie. Their characters were perfectly rounded and consistent. It really was brilliant. Wish youll write another story of them soon. :)

I know, they're not exactly a popular pairing floating around! Thank you though - I'm really glad you liked my version of the two of them, as they're a challenge to write together. Thanks for reading!

I do hope to return to them at some point :)

Well, I stumbled across this story when I found a link to it from a search for Marcus/Katie sites. I really enjoyed it. All the relationships were complex and believeable. One of my favorite parts was that moment between Angelina and Fred, so sweet and beautiful (thanks for not killing Fred btw). I like how Marcus and Katie have a similar moment at the end. Thanks for writing this!

Ha, well - the reason Fred got a reprieve is the fact the story didn't go that far in the timeline. If only it was that easy to undo JK's work....

It was enjoyable for me to write it, and I'm glad it worked for you :) Thank you for reading and commenting!

Hiya. I just came across a rec for this story on crack_broom, and despite never having read a Katie/Marcus story before, I gave it a shot and really loved it. In fact, I liked it so much that I'm going to be adding it to my multi-fandom recs page (http://beth-h.mrks.org/Recs.html) when I next update. Excellent work!

Thank you so much, both for giving the story a chance, and for commenting :) It was a not often written pairing for me either when I was first given it as a pairing for a fic exchange, and I hadn't really thought of Katie/Marcus fics in complimentary terms before. I'm glad you liked it, and even enough to rec it to others. Thank you!

I came here by way of a crack_broom recommendation, and ended up staying on your livejournal four hours, reading your stories. This has to be my favorite, though - it was my first Katie/Marcus fic, and you won me over to this pairing entirely. I *love* your Katie, and love your Marcus even more - stoic and unemotional and sometimes mean, and in love with Katie... my only complaint is that the story ended too soon. Thank you for such a wonderful read! I hope you don't mind if I friend you - I would love to read more of your work.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I admit Marcus can be a hard bastard to write, so it means a lot when somebody says his characterization comes across well - plus, I've always had a soft spot for Katie as an underappreciated and developed character in HP. Thank you so much as well, as I'm very flattered you liked it enough to even check out some more of my other fanfiction.

You're more than welcome to friend me! Though I admit I'm not exactly writing as much as I would like at the moment, though more will come at some point :) If you ever start using your LJ, do let me know and I'd be happy to add you back as well.

BRILLIANT. I loved it. Such a delicious, long, slow building story...with neither the war nor the romance out shadowing each other...and all the characters that you so wonderfully fleshed out. I wish there was more. Great job!

I know you won't get the email ping for this being a non-LJ user, but I wanted to say thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. It means a lot to hear you say that, since I truly enjoy when characters are just more than 'flat' in fanfiction myself.

Well.. Just read through this one as well! :) Loved it to pieces! I really liked how you did Marcus! I had never read any fics where he is one of the main characters, so it was very refreshing! Thanks for the read!

I'm glad you felt drawn in enough to come read another :D. I'm glad you enjoyed Marcus! He's so very under represented in fandom, and in so many ways a blank slate - just minimal glimpses froom canon.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment :D
